Interior LED light upgrade

Let there be light…

Here’s another simple and cheap upgrade for the Landy. The stock interior lights were very dim and I often found myself using a flashlight to find things in the rig. With 2 small kids who like to drop toys and seem to lose everything, it was time to increase the horsepower of my light bulbs. Buy new LEDs and replace the old lights…sounds simple enough? Wrong!

Most modern luxury cars are basically giant computers on wheels with an integrated  system called CAN bus. CAN bus is short for Controller Area Network which is designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other in applications without a host computer. Every system in the Land Rover is interconnected so that if one thing breaks or is disrupted it could cause a chain reaction of problems. Even the light bulbs! Luckily there are modern LED replacement light bulbs that are CAN bus compatible. Of course I didn’t know this at first but that’s the fun part about building my Land Rover LR3, learning as I go. After a little research I was able to find 2 different LED bulbs to replace the factory lights in my rig. In total I needed 13 bulbs to replace all the lights in the LR3.

As I mentioned earlier, I used 2 different LEDs to provide a brighter light in certain areas of the truck. The main lights in the center of the headliner and the door puddle lights have the brighter 240 lumen Luyed bulbs while the map and vanity lights have the smaller 150 lumen Safego bulbs.

Both lights can be purchased on Amazon via the links listed below ?
