CarPro Iron X

Rust be gone!

The Land Rover LR4 is a beast of an SUV coming in at a factory weight of nearly 6 tons and with mods like steel bumpers, a winch and sliders I would guess this particular one weighs around 7400lbs dry! As you can imagine stopping a heavy vehicle like this takes its toll on brake pads and rotors. Before you crucify me I will take the blame and fully admit that I waited far too long to change the brakes. This is currently my wife’s daily driver and I wasn’t really paying attention to things until she started complaining about noise coming from the brakes. Of course I sprang into action and ordered a full set of pads and rotors but in my neglect of the vehicle noticed another problem to deal with…RUST!

The LR4 was covered in small rust particles on pretty much every square inch of the vehicle. I had never seen anything like it in my life and without the white paint I’m not sure if I would have caught it when I did. On previous vehicles I’ve seen brake dust on the wheels and in small amounts on the fenders but never covering the entire vehicle. I’m talking even on the roof! I knew nothing about removing rust on car paint so I did what I always do and hit the internet. After an hour or so of research I decided to pull the trigger and order CarPro Iron X on Amazon.

Thanks to Amazon Prime delivery I received the Iron X in a couple days and couldn’t wait to use it. I gave the LR4 a quick wash and let it dry before applying the Iron X which came in a 1/2 liter spray bottle. This was my only negative experience with the product…the bottle itself. The squirt nozzle kept popping off causing the bottle to fall and after a few repeated times, the nozzle stopped spraying all together. Luckily I had another spray nozzle in the garage that fit the bottle so I could continue cleaning the LR4. Without the spray nozzle the Iron X becomes useless so keep in mind if you decide to buy it….I recommend slapping some duct tape around the nozzle where it meets the bottle to prevent it from coming off. Assuming the spray nozzle works, when applying the Iron X it goes on clear and then as it starts to work, the color starts to turn a purple-ish color. With the Fuji White paint on the LR4 you can really see how much rust was covering the vehicle! I applied the Iron X over the entire vehicle and waited for about 5 minutes and then washed it off. In certain areas I had to repeat this process a few times but in the end ALL the rust particles were removed from the paint. What a relief! I was worried that the rust was going to damage the paint and I would have a much bigger and costlier problem than just the brakes. Thankfully the CarPro Iron X did what it claimed to do and for that I firmly recommend this product.
